We are pleased to share an update on the recent activities of the Great Compassion Fund. In collaboration with Venerable Ayya Yeshe, Director, The Bodhicitta Foundation Inc. in Australia, we have extended support to women and children living in the slums of Nagpur, Central India. This donation will provide meals for 400 children and sponsor the education of seven children for an entire year.
Venerable Ayye also shared the story of one of the beneficiaries, a 15-year-old girl named Janvi. After the tragic loss of her father, who died by self-immolation, Janvi found refuge in the girls’ home supported by the foundation. She shares:
“I love K-pop dramas! For a long time, I didn’t feel safe in my neighborhood—many girls were molested or forced into prostitution. But at the girls’ home, my mother visits me every Sunday, and I no longer have to worry about family drama or feeding my younger siblings. I can focus on my studies and I’m not constantly hungry. I also receive moral support and friendship from the other girls and social workers. I want to help my mother move out of that terrible area and, one day, make the world a safer place for women. My dream is to become a psychologist and learn Korean.” — Janvi, 15
